Ayurveda believes nasal passage is the best way to treat disorders of above neck organs. Nasya involves administration of medicated oil through the nose in head low position.
The patient is advised to lie on a special wooden table with his neck and head comfortably placed. Then a continuous flow of the prescribed liquid medicine is gently poured on his forehead from a specific height through a specially devised apparatus called Dhara Chatti for a period of forty five minutes. This is called Shirodhara because it is applied on forehead.
Dhara is occasionally administered on whole body in special cases.
Dhara is considered to be effective for several diseases like stress related disorders, sleeplessness and many degenerated brain disorders. Different liquid mediums are used in Dhara for different diseases. Medicated oils, milk, tender coconut water and decoctions of herb extracts are some of the fluids used.
Ayurvedic tharpanam or tarpan means retention of herbal medicines over the eyes for up to 30 minutes or more, for treating strain to the eyes, improve eye sight, strengthen the optic nerve and to prevent different eye diseases.
It is basically an eye-cleansing process and it rejuvenates the eye. It gives a cooling effect to eyes. The medicated oil or medicated ghrit is retained over the eye bordered with a thick herbal combination.

Ashwagandha or Indian winter cherry is a shrub cultivated in India and North America whose roots have been used for thousands of years by Ayurvedic practitioners. The root contains flavonoids and many active ingredients of the withanolide class.
It is rich source of over 25 alkaloids, vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, steroid, saponins and polysaccharides etc. It is Aphrodisiac, tonic, pain reliever and used to cure general debility and impotency.
Recent studies indicate that it can also lower plasma lipids and VLDL in diabetic animal models as well as animals fed a high-fat diet, suggesting an effect on lipoprotein metabolism. Momordica charantia may also be beneficial in blood sugar control, and has some anti viral activity.
Crataeva nurvala is a moderate sized deciduous tree with gray and smooth horizontally wrinkled bark with trifoliate leaves. Its flowers are white or cream in color and are present as many flowered terminal corymbs.
Guduchi stem is bitter in taste and warming in action, and is a rasayana tonic for good health and longevity. It has strong anti-toxin and anti-inflammatory properties, reduces mucus, protects the liver and has a calming, stabilizing effect on the nervous system (Vata).
